Foiling Week Garda28/1/2025 Foiling Week at Lake Garda was my first big WASZP regatta, and having 100 boats on the starting line was a unique experience. Unfortunately, the first three days didn’t go as expected, with very little wind and only a few races completed.
Things improved in the final days when the breeze picked up, with gusts reaching 25 knots from the north. Racing finally got going, and it was all about managing the conditions. I had a few decent moments, rounding the first mark in good positions in several races. However, my downwind performance wasn’t as strong, with a few too many swims costing me the places I had gained earlier. Despite that, the stronger breeze gave me some much-needed experience, and the final days ended up being valuable training. Looking ahead, I’m hoping to build on the positive moments and work on finishing stronger in future regattas. While the result of this regatta doesn’t really matter, I have to admit it’s quite humbling to be beaten by kids half my size—not exactly great for the ego. Fortunately, there’s only one way to fix that: more training;)
